Some thoughts that come to mind as I reach my 75th birthday. Thinking back on my high school days I find that I was one of those students that needed more time to mature. When I went to college I grew, met the most important person in my life, my wife Kathy, and found a profession that I enjoyed for forty years. I taught mathematics at Bound Brook High School and my last four years at Immaculata High School in Somerville. I coached several sports at Bound Brook and then became a NJSIAA football, baseball and track official. The past fifty years I have lived in Somerville that is now my hometown. I became a volunteer firefighter, served twelve years on the board of education and been on several other boards and committees in town. My wife and I will be celebrating our 50th anniversary come December. Time flies when you are having a good time.

Today I was at a luncheon of the Somerset County Retired Educators Association. Joe Thompson was an administrator in Hillsborough Township Public Schools in Somerset County. There were a number of educators from Hillsborough at the luncheon who were unaware of the passing of Joe. The number of positive comments was wonderful and made me proud to say he was a high school classmate of mine.

So sad. I taught school in a near adjacent town , Bound Brook High School, for36 years. I was awair that Joe also taught close by and I beleave along with Lois. Over the years I have spoken with colleagues and students of Joe and everyone expressed what a great educator and friend he was. He will be sorely missed by his friends in Ridgewood but also by his friends an colleagues in Somerset County,NJ.
